Currently around 10% of total production is grown according to organic farming principles, in particular by Biosüdtirol, the VOG cooperative entirely devoted to organic cultivation. With 32,000 tonnes planned for the coming season, VOG guarantees a 12-month supply of high-quality apples. The markets responded well to the forecasts, allowing activities to be planned with a degree of confidence.
Varietal innovation, which is central to the VOG Consortium’s development policies, also contributes to the development of organic farming, involving RedPop®, Giga®, envy™, Kanzi®, Pink Lady® and the Bio Marlene® and Biosüdtirol brands, which now have their own loyal customers.
Investments in organic farming aim to develop new opportunities for VOG farmers, including through communication strategies to boost end-consumer demand. VOG’s commitment is also reflected in its presence at the sector’s leading trade fairs, both in Italy and abroad: in November alone, the Consortium took part in Biolife, B/Open and the Nordic Organic Food Fair.
