China-Myanmar border: Limited trade to restart

The border trade with Myanmar, that was shut down by the Chinese government in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19, is set to restart under a new set of restrictions, according to merchants based in the Shan State-China border town of Muse.

The Kyin San Kyawt gate, one of the five major trading gates in Muse’s 105 Mile Trade Zone, was scheduled to reopen today after being closed since July 8, vice-chair of the Muse Fruit Wholesale Centre Sai Khin Maung said.

No date has been given regarding the opening of the other four gates, which have been closed since April 2020. Exports at the overland trade route have plummeted by more than $534 mln as a result of the shutdown.
