HM.Clause met the operators of the sector in a symbolic location

Open Day at the Sicilian fruit and vegetable market in Vittoria

During the Sicilian Open Day, HM.Clause presented a selection of the latest varietal innovations in the field of tomatoes, courgettes and peppers. The event was held on 12 November in an exceptional location, that is the fruit and vegetable market of Vittoria.

More than 500 official visitors attended this event, which aimed at demonstrating the importance of the seed company for the Sicilian production, in a symbolic location for the Italian fruit and vegetable industry.

The main focus of the event was the promotion of the cherry Prodigio F1, as an addition to the HM.Clause cherry variety offer.

Prodigio F1, which is suited to short cycles, stands out in the cherry range for its bright red color and its excellent flavor, as well as for its eye-catching aspect.

"Prodigio has proven to be very popular and we are really satisfied with its performance in any weather condition, especially with the great Sicilian summer heat. Prodigio has passed the the heat stress test very well even this summer, when temperatures have reached for many days over 45 °C outside the greenhouses. Nevertheless, Prodigio stood out for its flavor and color, always bright red, even in conditions of high temperatures and it was well placed on the shelves of the Italian retail markets, especially at a time when the shortage of Italian tomatoes accentuated the competition with foreign products," commented Agostino Marcellino, Sicily's area manager.

All tomato-related public relations are supported by the international project Thrilled for Tomato!. With this project HM.Clause intends to become a reliable reference on the global tomato market.

"This open day gave us the opportunity to talk about other important varieties such as Dovizio tomato dates, Anissia round smooth tomatoes, Maestoso, Mecisteo and Belfagor peppers, Dharma and Shyva courgettes. The latter, resistant to the New Delhi virus, have proved to be very important for the sector, giving farmers the opportunity to defend themselves from this problem. These courgettes are part of the No-New Delhi resistance project, born last spring and that will soon see the arrival of new varieties," continued the manager.

"The event turned out to be very pleasant, but also a very busy one. In addition to the many operators of the fruit and vegetable market, in fact, we received several visits from operators who arrived specifically to visit us. I am referring to the many field technicians, plant nursery operators, agribusiness executives, traders and many producers, of small, medium and large companies, who contributed to the quality of the event with their participation," commented Marcellino.

"After such a long time, the area Hm.Clause team had the pleasure to meet with field workers and continue the special relationship that exists with this part of the Sicilian territory," concluded the area manager.
