The Mexicali Valley produces 90% of the dates that Mexico consumes

90% of the dates consumed in Mexico come from the fields of the Mexicali Valley, Baja California, and San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, where the 2021 Expo Ruta del Datil was held this weekend to promote the benefits of this crop and its consumption in the country.

Marco Antonio Chavira, the organizer of the event stated at a press conference that there were currently more than 1,200 producers of this fruit in this area that supply the entire country. This region also exports the dates it produces to countries in the Middle East and Europe.

The representative also said that they expected there would be 1,000 new date producers in the coming years and that the increase in consumption of this fruit would lead to greater demand and higher returns for marketers.

Marco Antonio Chavira said that they were organizing events, such as the 2021 Expo Ruta del Datil, to promote and add value to the Mexican date. More than 50 producers participated in the 2021 Expo Ruta del Datil, which was held in the sports field of the Nuevo León ejido, Mexicali valley, to promote this crop.
