Piura will export five new mango varieties in this export campaign

The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) officially gave start to the 2021-2022 mango export campaign. Peru expects to surpass the 200,000 tons exported during the previous campaign and to consolidate the presence of Piura mango abroad with the inclusion of five new varieties (Omer, Shelly, Orli, Tali, and Noa), plus its traditional Haden, Kent, Tommy Atkins, and Edwards varieties.

These new varieties are grown on 22 hectares in the Chira Valley (Sullana) and are characterized by their good aroma, flavor, and color.

Campaign progress
So far in this campaign, Peru has exported 33,706 tons of mango that were grown in 4,881 certified hectares.

The main mango production sites in Piura are located in the San Lorenzo and Alto Piura valleys. During the previous season, a total of 10,947 hectares of mango were certified in full production.

Senasa inspectors carry out the phytosanitary actions for shipments to the North American market in conjunction with their counterparts from the United States Department of Agriculture's Plant and Animal Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS).

Shipments to South Korea and Japan began normally in compliance with the work plans established with those destinations.
