APPIBRAS holds 1st Brazilian Symposium on pitayas in December

On December 14th, the pitayas Producers Association of Brazil (Appibras) will hold the 1st Brazilian Pitayas Symposium. The conference will have a hybrid format, being in person, in the city of Juazeiro, Bahia, and online as well.

The goal of the congress is to share technical knowledge about the cultivation of pitayas, or dragon fruit, a fruit that is both beneficial to health and economically promising, as it requires a low investment cost in the cultivation and results at a high market value.

According to the organization's president, Afif Jawabri, Brazil produces 5,000 to 8,000 tons per year. The crop is present in all states, with emphasis on São Paulo, Pará, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais and Ceará. The price paid to the producer for a kilo of fruit can change depending on the time of year and demand, but it varies between 5 to 15 reais, being a promising alternative for Brazilian producers.
