Ecuadorian officials seize 2.7 tons of drugs in banana cargo

Personnel from the Anti-Drug Investigation Directorate, with the support of Can Sasha, found 2.7 tons of drugs on Monday 15 in two containers that were intended to be shipped by sea to Europe. The shipment was hidden in boxes of bananas, whose final destination was Georgia and Greece.

Manuel Gómez, Antinárcotics chief of the Police in zone 8, reported that the discovery of the alkaloid in one of the ports of Guayaquil was achieved after analytical techniques of observation and profiling in a routine control in two containers.

After both containers were opened,  staff from the Canine Training Center, with Can Sasha, reviewed one of the containers and gave an alert of the possible presence of illegal substances. Then followed the intervention to the second container.

In one of the containers, 100 boxes between 13 and 14 rectangular-shaped brick-like packages of a whitish substance were detected.
