Ecuadorian banana exports up until September decreased by 9%

In November 2021, the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexport) published its latest  Foreign Trade Statistical Report with figures up to September. According to the report, even though the total trade balance was positive and had a surplus of 1.946 billion dollars, non-oil trade registered a negative result of 1.375 billion due to the 34% increase in imports in this segment.

The country's total exports up until September rose to 19.057 billion dollars, i.e. 30% more than in the same period of 2020. Meanwhile, in the first nine months of 2021, non-oil and non-mining exports experienced a 10% year-on-year growth, reaching a value of 11.437 billion dollars and accounting for 60% of total exports. However, banana exports decreased by 9% over the same period of 2020.

The United States is the first destination for Ecuador's non-oil supply. Between January and September 2021, non-oil exports to the North American country grew by 16%. The European Union is the second commercial destination and registered a 14% increase. Exports to China are recovering and are 2% higher than in 2020.
