Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture has proposed measures to stabilize prices for vegetables from the "borscht set". The department believes that it is necessary to increase the acreage for vegetables, as well as increase the capacity for storing products.
Until 2025, it is planned to increase the area for growing ‘ borscht set’ vegetables by 14% (up to 108,300 hectares). 60% of new areas should be previously unused areas. Also, new vegetable stores will be built, which will make it possible to additionally store 313,900 tons of products.
The Ministry of Agriculture proposes to increase, in comparison with last year, the area for growing cabbage by 14,5% (up to 34,700 hectares), for beets - by 8% (up to 17,500 hectares), for onions - by 12,7% (up to 30,100 hectares), for carrots - by 20% (up to 26,000 hectares), for potatoes - by 7% (up to 302,500 hectares).
