Colombian authorities dismantle a criminal group that smuggled cocaine to Europe and Central America in fruit shipments

Authorities arrested six individuals and dismantled a criminal group that smuggled cocaine from Colombia to Europe in fruit shipments.

According to the Colombian Prosecutor's Office, the group worked with officials from the Colombian port of Santa Marta and with truck drivers to camouflage the bales of cocaine inside boxes of fruit that were later transferred on merchant ships to different countries, such as the Netherlands or the Costa Delicious.

"The evidence presented by a specialized prosecutor from Bolivar allowed a judge to prosecute six alleged members of a criminal organization for the crimes of criminal conspiracy, trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of drugs," the agency has Colombian stated.

The arrests have been carried out in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office, the Armed Forces, and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) after several operations in Bogota, Santa Marta, and the municipality of Zipaquira, in Cundinamarca.

This criminal organization would be responsible for the shipment of more than one ton of cocaine that was seized by authorities on June 20, 2018. The drug would be worth 7 million dollars.
