Chinese markets open their doors for Egyptian pomegranates

Minister of Agriculture El Sayyed El Quseir has stated that China markets have opened for the Egyptian pomegranate exports, in accordance with a report he received by Head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine Department Chief Ahmed El Attar.

Quseir said China is one of the important markets for Egypt due to its population density and the high rates of its imports of vegetables and fruits. He said Egyptian fresh pomegranate exports exceed 100,000 tons annually, adding that China's approval on Egypt's exports was issued after technical talks and long-term measures to know the circumstances of agricultural monitoring as well as other relevant measures on exports.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Attar, head of the Plant Quarantine, pointed out that Egypt was able to open markets in Japan, America, Canada, the European Union and the Netherlands, noting that pomegranate is one of the most important Egyptian agricultural exports. According to Al-Attar, Egypt ranked first in the world in exporting citrus for the third year in a row.
