Sophie Ye (KX Food): "We're expecting a good demand for ginger in the next three months"

"First container of new Chinese chestnut crops sold within a couple of hours"

In Belgium, KX Food offers both organic and conventional Chinese, Brazilian, and Peruvian ginger year-round. According to Sophie Ye, the ginger market is currently very well balanced. "Prices are reasonable, not good but not bad either. We should begin getting the new harvest from China from mid-January," she says.

According to this importer, it is hard to say how the ginger market will continue to develop. "Logistics costs are as high as ever. Nobody knows how long this will last."

"But it's expected that to continue next year. However, we're in a positive frame of mind," Sophie says. "That's thanks to the next three month's ginger demand. This is always high in winter."

The company got the first Chinese chestnuts this week. "We sold the first containers within a few hours. There's not much supply of these on the market. And it's actively looking for chestnuts. More of these will arrive in the next few weeks. We import garlic all year long from China. That market is currently developing relatively slowly," Sophie concludes.
