The table grape campaign will conclude in about ten days in the Region of Murcia, one of the main producing and exporting autonomous communities in Spain, stated Joaquin Gomez, the president of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Table Grapes, and Other Agricultural Products, APOEXPA. To date, the campaign has been positive, he added.
In 2020, Spain exported 193,089 tons of table grapes (24% more than in 2019) for a value of 412 million euro (+ 34%), according to data from the Customs and Excise Department processed by Fepex. Murcia exported a total of 130,000 tons of seedless table grapes for 275 million euro. The demand for this variety is on the rise in Europe due to its quality and ease of consumption.
The Region of Murcia, Alicante, and to a lesser extent some provinces of Andalusia, concentrate the cultivation of table grapes in Spain. They have more than 14,000 hectares devoted to this cultivation, 6,688 of them correspond to white table grapes with seeds, 3,452 hectares correspond to seedless red table grapes, 2,441 hectares correspond to seedless white grapes, and 1,891 hectares to seedless red table grapes, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food from Spain's 2020 Survey on Surfaces and Crop Yields. Spain table grape global production stands at 273,000 tons.
