Anti-icing fans entirely produced in Italy by AID - Oranfresh

Planning ahead to prevent spring frosts

The spring frosts of 2021 affected several regions in northern Italy, reducing summer fruit production by half and, in some cases, totally destroying it. Farmers have for some time now taken steps to equip themselves with anti-freeze fans that can protect crops from frequent devastating frosts.

Italy has a long tradition and expertise in protecting fruit against frost. The Sicilian company AID - Oranfresh that, with its anti-frost fans, boasts a know-how of over 50 years, owned by Salvatore Torrisi, who is also inventor of the system.

After many years of research carried out by our team of engineers in the Research & Development department, we have recently started producing two new models of de-icing fans. In our case, this is not a last-minute discovery, but the technological evolution of a company that has been operating for over 50 years in the field of de-icing technologies in agriculture," said the founder of A.I.D. - Agriculture Industrial Development.

"More specifically, we are talking about the WMD170 model, which has a 5.93 meters long propeller and an Iveco N67 Ipu 175 horsepower engine and latest-generation gearboxes supplied by the American company Amarillo, which is a world leader in its sector, specialized in the manufacture of gearboxes and with whom we are in partnership in Italy and Spain,” added Torrisi.

"Then there is the WMD230 model, which is the most powerful of its kind in the world, fitted with an Iveco N67 Ent 238 engine producing 2200 rpm, with a 6.10 meters propeller that can be controlled remotely using a smartphone. This version gives you the ability to turn the fan on and off with a simple click, but you can also set the temperatures to automatically start and stop, so it is totally controllable from a remote location," continued the industrialist.

Towers in production

The A.I.D. - Oranfresh fans are the only ones to be produced in Italy, including the IVECO FPT Avoni engines, and they are made by the only Italian company that really produces anti-icing fans. The two new fans are fully interconnected with the management systems of the farms that purchase them and are certified 4.0, which means that customers can take advantage of the Italian 50% tax credit, as well as the possibility of applying for Sabatini tax incentives.

A very interesting market in Italy is undoubtedly that of the Emilia Romagna region, which unfortunately has been affected by frost in the last two years. Here, the regional government has published two calls for applications with grants to cover 70% of the purchase of active frost protection systems, which will expire in mid-November 2021. These are really useful measures for the sector, providing an incentive for Emilia-Romagna producers to purchase frost-free fans to protect themselves from possible spring frosts.

"In order to guarantee assistance to our customers in Emilia Romagna, we have opened our own branch office in Castel Bolognese (RA), in Via Emilia Levante n.400, which is also a mechanical assistance center for our anti-icing fans and where the specialized technical staff of our partner Morara will always be present for sales and assistance", concluded Torrisi.

A.I.D. - Oranfresh fans are requested and sold all over the world.
