Exports grew by 18% between January and July 2021

"Colombian cape gooseberries continue to position the country in the international market"

Colombian cape gooseberry exports increased by 18% between January and July of this year totaling 23.6 million dollars, according to data from the National Administrative Department of Statistics.

"Colombian cape gooseberries continue to position the country in the international market as it is the second most exported exotic fruit after gulupa; this helps us diversify our agro-export basket," stated Flavia Santoro, the president of ProColombia. She also said that Colombia is the main producer and exporter of this fruit worldwide. As part of this fruit's international promotion strategy, the country has taken important steps to accompany the sector in relevant international fairs.

Colombia already exports cape gooseberries to 17 countries. Its main markets are the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Canada, Belgium, France, and the United Arab Emirates.

Asohofrucol and the Committee of Exporters of Cape Gooseberry Analdex are currently conducting a market study in Germany to know consumers and how they use cape gooseberries so as to continue increasing sales of this product in the European Union.
