"Unexpected increase in demand for Refresh nets after the summer"

"It could be because of the results we have obtained over the past few months or due to the sunny and dry summer; anyway, we have registered a booming demand for our Refresh white nets. They are recommended for fresh-cut vegetables, i.e. delicate crops with a short cycle, and they create a favorable micro-climate when it comes to light and temperature during the summer months," explains Walter Ruggia, technological innovation manager at Retilplast.

"We have had to get organized with some machinery and increase the working units in order to guarantee deliveries. The weaving of Refresh nets is slow, as nets are made of black single threads and high-density polyethylene (PE-HD) white gaff strips with new additives. All producers are aware of the lack of raw materials and of the uncertain times we are living in, which is why they wanted to confirm their orders a few months in advance."

Refresh nets are a success all over Italy, so much so that small and medium businesses are also considering them. Alessandro Spelta, a technician at OP La Maggiolina, reported that "the peculiarity of this net is its refreshing power. We managed not only to reduce the temperature in greenhouses by 3-4°C during the periods with the maximum light and heat, but we have also reduced plant stress and irrigation. We are pleased with the results we obtained with lamb's lettuce, baby spinach, rocket, and baby lettuce."

Refresh nets are placed on top of covers in April/May and are removed in September.
