Graziano Defilippis, of Polar Fruit Europa:

"We are the only sales office for the Blanc Seedless grapes produced in Europe"

The table grape campaign is in full swing in Spain, and pending the possible consequences of unexpected meteorological instability, the national production is expected to increase by 4.9%, according to the latest Surface and Production Advance of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food corresponding to July 2021.

The Spanish table grape production is recovering from the fall recorded last year, with an increase in the supply of the many varieties grown in the country. Spain is the second largest EU producer of table grapes, after Italy, and a net exporter, as it ships around 60% of its total production to international markets.

One of the varieties grown in Spain is the Blanc Seedless. Polar Fresh Group has exclusive rights over the variety's worldwide development (with the exception of the US) and currently offers it to customers from various origins (Chile, Peru, Australia, Spain and Italy). "It is the only sales office for the Blanc Seedless grape produced in Europe, both by our Spanish producers (Moyca and Ignacio Prieto) and by our producer in Italy (Giuliano, in the Apulia region)," says Graziano Defilippis.

"Polar technicians control every production field to ensure only the best quality grapes are supplied. We pack the grapes and market them to supermarkets under our Sweeta® and Crunchy One® brands."

"This year we have very good quality fruit with a very high Brix, as the season has been free of rain until today, both in Spain and Italy."

"Our production in Spain will amount to 4 million kilos, to which we must add the 800,000 kilos we expect to produce in Italy. In any case, we have Blanc Seedless grapes available during much of the year thanks to our productions in the southern hemisphere," says Graziano.

"When the European season ends at the end of November, we move on to the Peruvian and then, until June, continue with the latest batches from Chile."

The Blanc Seedless variety was developed by breeder Anton Caratan, who, after more than twenty years of work, obtained a green seedless grape with all the characteristics that retailers demand for this fruit. "Our grapes have a large caliber, a crisp texture and a very sweet flavor with an excellent post-harvest shelf life," says Graziano. "Consumers can find it in Sweeta or Crunchy One bags and tubs in supermarkets across Europe, such as Mercadona, Aldi or El Corte Inglés in Spain, Kaufland in Germany or Coop supermarkets in Italy or the Scandinavian countries."

"Blanc Seedless grapes can only be produced by our licensed producers and are marketed worldwide by our Group (Polar Fresh Group). Our main objective is to protect the variety and achieve the best possible quality, so that our grapes reach consumers in the best condition," says Graziano Defilippis.
