Chinese garlic export is slowly starting up again after National Day on 1st October. The price levels are more or less the same as before the holiday. The price of top-quality garlic in particular is stable. The pace of trade in garlic from storage remains slow. That is because the price of garlic from storage is not very high, and traders with stock in storage have no opportunity to make much profit under these circumstances.
"The volume of orders from overseas buyers may increase in the coming weeks. Christmas and New Year are approaching, and that is traditionally when consumption in the West grows. Garlic production areas in Jinxiang suffered from continuous rainfall around the National Day holiday. These weather conditions had an impact on the pace of deliveries, and on the price as well. The supply volume of top-quality garlic declined. Industry specialists predicted that the price would go up. In addition, the National Day holiday pushed the price up as well. Only after the holiday passed did the price come down.
Ms. Annie Chen continued, "most of our garlic is currently exported to the Middle East and Africa. The main reason for the high export price of Chinese garlic is still the excessively high shipping cost. In addition, a shortage of cargo space and the economic impact of the pandemic all create obstacles for Chinese garlic export. That is why the Chinese garlic export volume remains smaller than usual."
