Avocado demand set to soar in Australia

Avocado production is set to double by 2026 to 170,000 tons as demand for the popular fruit is soaring. Avocados Australia CEO John Tyas stated that demand in Australia is one of the highest in the world, and it’s only going to increase.

John Tyas: “We’ve seen phenomenal growth. It’s been happening for a few years now, it’s really been a response by the industry to the demand, for the love of avocados that we’ve got here in Australia.”

According to Tyas, a mix of climate and promotion has resulted in the enormous popularity of avocados in Australia.

“The fact that we can grow all year round means that it’s on the shelf all year round,” he told 6pr.com.au. “And I just think there’s been a lot of work done to promote the use of avocados and the wonderful health properties of avocados, it’s just a fantastic product.”
