Forum on Sicilian citrus farming

The Forum on citrus fruit growing in Sicily is an opportunity for citrus producers, represented by their consortia, to meet with the regional institutions in charge of guiding and supporting marketing and sales strategies. The event will see the participation of numerous national and regional experts, who will discuss issues linked to the numerous citrus-growing problems.

The EU Farm to Fork Strategy calls for a policy aimed at safeguarding biodiversity and focusing on highly topical issues such as sustainable development and combating climate change.

Technical contributions will be delivered by the representatives of the following consortia: Distretto Produttivo Agrumi di Sicilia, IGP Siracusa, IGP Limone dell'Etna, IGP Limone Interdonato, Arancia Rossa di Sicilia IGP; Consorzio di Tutela Mandarivo Tardivo di Ciaculli and Arancia Ribera di Sicilia DOP.

The participation in the Sicilian Citrus Fruit Forum in Bagheria as part of the Bio in Sicily event is also a way to promote the lemon crop Limone Verdello di Bagheria, with the involvement of operators in the sector and the international trade press.

Antonio Fricano, president of the BIA Consortium, emphasized on the fundamental elements of the marketing policy of the citrus fruit sector. "The challenge on the markets for Sicilian citrus products is based on the themes of environmental sustainability, and above all on ethics, so as to consolidate a trust-based relationship with the operators of the large-scale retail trade and with consumers. The transparency of the supply chain is an important added value, which goes hand in hand with organoleptic and aesthetic quality, certifications and supply chain processes.

Sicilian citrus fruits, as is well known, are valuable crops, thanks to their quality and organoleptic properties and also to the fact that they are perceived by consumers as a healthy product. These factors have proved to be decisive in increasing the demand in national and European markets. There are important opportunities thanks to innovative processes in cultivation techniques.
