US: UNFI delivered ‘solid fiscal 2021’, new CEO Sandy Douglas says
New United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) CEO J. Alexander “Sandy” Douglas took part in his first earnings call with the company, which eked out a sales gain for its 2021 fiscal year but topped the high end of Wall Street’s earnings forecast. For the 4th quarter ended July 31, net sales totaled $6.74bln, down 0.5% from $6.77bln a year earlier, when the grocery distributor reported a 0.4% uptick (8% on a comparable basis) amid strong customer demand fueled by the COVID-19, UNFI said. Sales for the 2021 quarter were up 7.5% on a 2-year stack, the company noted.

UK: Morrisons supermarket workers win key legal battle in equal pay fight
Thousands of store workers at UK supermarket chain Morrisons have won the 1st round of their legal battle for equal pay. In the decision handed down by Judge Davies at Leeds Employment Tribunal, it was confirmed that more than 2,300 of Morrisons’ retail workers who are mostly women can rely on the supermarket’s distribution centre workers as comparators in their claims for equal pay.
Norway’s retail sales decline 3.8% in August
Norway’s seasonally adjusted volume of retail sales decreased by 3.8% from July to August, the latest data from Statistics Norway has revealed. It follows a decline of 3.1% from June to July. The pandemic and regulations imposed to limit infections have contributed to Norwegian consumers changing their consumption patterns and spending less on services, and more on retail goods.
