SHAFFE seminar at Fruit Attraction

“What a sustainable produce sector could look like in 2030”

The Southern Hemisphere Association of Fresh Fruit Exporters (SHAFFE) represents 25% of the total global fruit trade and the continued impact of the pandemic not only on the trading operations itself but also on the way we have been networking and creating business contacts at trade shows and events has been forcing members to proactively ensure a continued presence in a period of restricted travel.

"The past months have been incredibly challenging for our members," said Charif Christian Carvajal, Director Marketing Europe / Asia – ASOEX & President of SHAFFE.

"Hence, we have been increasing our trade outreach through our SHAFFE conference in March 2021 as well actively participating in policy for such as the IPPC or the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation as well as commercial platforms such as the MacFruit Italian Berry day Congress and APAMA Forum in Argentina.

"Our focus for the upcoming weeks will be to carefully prepare our successful participation at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, where we will be present with our own stand and our own seminar during the fair."

Fruit Attraction is a traditional meeting place for SHAFFE members with its European clients. Therefore, many SHAFFE members have been regular guests to the trade show. This year the organization will have several members participating directly at the fair and making use of the stand and other members will be actively present through SHAFFE's hybrid offline and online mode seminar.

"We have been engaging over the summer into an extensive process together with a dedicated task force, to discuss and define the common strategic priorities for SHAFFE in reference to sustainability."

SHAFFE member countries have been active in this area for some time now and this task force compliments each country's existing strategies by focusing on reviewing common challenges and opportunities for the Southern Hemisphere fruit sector.

"During the Fruit Attraction fair we will be organizing a seminar called “How a sustainable produce sector could look like in 2030” on the 6th of October 2021 in a hybrid conference format – where we will be taking the opportunity to share some of the learnings and insights, that we will be publishing in the coming weeks in the organizations Sustainability White Paper."
