France: Bioplants is developing its production

The company Bioplants, which specializes in organic aromatic herbs, wants to develop its production without chemical inputs by going down the path of circular economy, automation, and artificial intelligence.

“The facility has been designed to supply retailers in the west and south of Paris. We have 15,000 m² of greenhouses, with the possibility of reaching 40,000 m² in the future,” explains manager Angel Rodriguez.

The production is entirely automated: from sowing to shipping. “We have been inspired by the industry and have a high level of engineering. It is not incompatible with organic and eco-designed production. On the contrary, the technology allows us to reach a high level of requirement,” explains Angel Rodriguez.

Regarding the greenhouses, no heating or artificial lighting is used, and rainwater is collected, then filtered, enriched with nutrients, and recycled. “Our goal is to go beyond open-ground organic production in terms of circular economy and respect of the environment. It is the case for water efficiency. The current issues go beyond the organic criteria. We must stop opposing production methods because all of them are necessary.”
