According to the director of Agricultural Operations at Agrovision, Juan José Gal´Lino Vargas, genetic differentiation is key to success in the blueberry business.
Gal´Lino Vargas indicated that his represented focuses on premium fruit, for this they use the best varieties of blueberries. Currently they have more than 20 varieties of this fruit in production, which have different traits and characteristics that allow them to satisfy the consumption experiences of their customers. They also have 20 other varieties of blueberries under protection.
He stressed that it is important to have different varieties of the fruit to satisfy the demands of its customers, since each market has its preferences in terms of size, acidity, bloom, among others. In addition, it is important to have early or late varieties that allow the company to supply the markets for longer.
“It is a dynamic market and varieties are constantly emerging. Varieties that used to be the top now are no longer so, that forces us to be up-to-date with customer preferences,” he commented.
In that sense, he said that Agrovision has an agreement with the best geneticist houses in the world, obtaining premium fruits that allow them to compete worldwide. Currently, the company is part of the top 10 agro-export companies in Peru.
