Strawberry grower optimistic for Tasmania's strawberry season

Turners Beach Berry Farm owner Craig Morris said traditionally there had been a reset period between the Queensland strawberry season and Tasmania's.
"The season prices collapse when Queensland's flush the market is a very normal situation," Mr Morris said. "Though conditions are worse than before."

Data from Australian grocery comparison app found strawberries had hit their lowest 2021 prices at major supermarkets this month reported

"This is based on seasonality and a combination of fruit picking labour shortages and hospitality lockdowns due to COVID-19," Frugl's managing director and chief executive officer Sean Smith said.

"Every punnet will help Aussie farmers tackle the current waste and oversupply issues." Mr Morris said COVID-19 lockdowns weren't a big concern. "Hopefully we'll have a high enough vaccination rate (by Tasmania's season), which will make COVID less of an issue."

He said the season reset would assist him and other Coastal growers.
