Commerce Ministry announces procedure for imports under India-Mauritius Trade Agreement

The India-Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) is a kind of free trade agreement that came into effect from April 1. Some 310 export items for India have been included in this agreement.

Last Tuesday, the Mauritian Commerce Ministry notified duty rate quotas (TRQs) and import procedures from Mauritius for certain items under the India-Mauritius Free Trade Agreement.

The items which are allowed to be imported under TRQ include pineapples at 1,000 tons with 30 percent duty and 250 tons of litchis with 10 percent duty. The DGFT has said that the application should also be accompanied by a pre-purchase agreement with the eligible Mauritius exporter of the specified goods.
