Kano state governor Abdullahi Ganduje has emphasized his administration’s commitment towards promoting the value chain for onions and other commodities. He stated that from the moment he assumed office, Kano State has supported the programs initiated by the federal government led by president Muhammad Buhari, which made diversification of agriculture one of its goals.
Ganduje’s state deputy, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, stated: “Onion is a perishable vegetable that must be exploited to boost the nation. In Kano, we have onion markets due to the realisation of the importance of vegetables to the economy. Our farmers have been suffering a lot in the area of post-harvest losses, but now they have innovations through technology, especially the storage methods.”
While assuring them of continued support, cooperation and collaboration, he implored them to take advantage of the intervention programs initiated by the federal government to enhance more production and processing of onion.
