He also said that the main destination market for the Peruvian pomegranates in the 2021 campaign was the Netherlands, where the country shipped 20,662,866 kilos. It was followed by Russia with 6,615,027 kilos, the United Kingdom with 2,361,837 kilos, and with smaller volumes, Canada, United Arab Emirates, United States, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Hong Kong, Italy, and Spain, among other markets.

It's necessary to open new markets to boost Peruvian pomegranate exports, stated Antonio Bustamante, the general manager of Agroinca. The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) is negotiating to enter the Chinese market and it is working to change the treatment this fruit must undergo to access the United States, he added. The US market currently requires an irradiation treatment that is very expensive, he stated.
