US: North country growers witness stressed, yet fruitful, apple harvest

September has arrived, and with it, the North country apple harvest season. Growers claim that, in this second pandemic year, with stressors impacting people of all varieties, apples are feeling it, too.

Last year's drought conditions between the Thousand Islands, Adirondacks and northern St. Lawrence River areas began the mixed-weather storm influencing this year's crop. Late snows this spring, early summer drought, mid-July hail and heavy rainfall rounded out the year.
