14,333 French farms certified on January 1st, 2021

“The threshold of 15,000 HEV farms should be reached more than a year early”

According to the French Ministry of Food and Agriculture, “the number of farms certified High Environmental Value has strongly progressed in just 6 months. On January 1st, 2021, we counted 14,333 farms certified while only 8,218 farms were certified on July 1st, 2020. This represents an increase of 74% in the 2nd semester of 2020. In 2020, nearly 9.000 farms obtained the HEV certification.”

The French government had originally set as an objective in its biodiversity plan to have 15,000 farms with the HEV certification in 2022, and 50,000 in 2030. “The threshold of 15,000 farms will therefore be reached more than a year ahead of schedule.”

Horticulturists as well as fruit and vegetable growers continue their commitment to the approach. “This progression reflects the commitment to ecological transition on the part of a growing number of farmers from all sectors, which confirms the producers’ enthusiasm and desire to take part in the agroecological transition.”
