VOG trials natural enemy in fight against brown marmorated stink bug

Following positive results last year, VOG is continuing trials aimed at controlling the insect through the use of Anastatus bifasciatus: this parasitoid wasp is a native European insect of the Hymenoptera order and a natural enemy of stink bugs, parasitising their eggs and thus preventing them from reproducing.

To coordinate action, VOG collaborates with its partner company, Cesena-based Bioplanet, whose laboratories carry out intensive breeding of the parasitoid wasp, which will be released in precisely controlled operations in the municipalities of Nalles, Caldaro, Lana, Laives and Naturno.

The Consortium thus offers a sustainable and timely response to the threat to fruit orchards. Work on this front involves the Workgroup for Integrated Fruit Production (AGRIOS), the South Tyrolean Advisory Service for Fruit and Winegrowing, the Laimburg Research Centre and the South Tyrolean Apple Consortium.
