In two weeks, the 13th edition of AMHPAC’s (Mexican Association of Protected Horticulture) annual convention will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico. The event was born from the need of growers to meet and conduct business together. It is aimed at national and international leaders of the fruit and vegetable industry, including growers, public officials, supply chain representatives, as well as researchers and consultants of the sector.
During the three-day summit that starts on Wednesday, September 1, the current situation in the fresh produce industry will be analyzed, as well as the sector’s risks and opportunities. In addition, the international business environment will be examined and used to strengthen relationships between participating decision makers.

“We will have representatives from Mexico, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, and France,” says Alfredo Diaz, AMPHAC’s CEO. Attendees will have an opportunity to connect with their peers as well as with input and service suppliers. Although this year will be different due to COVID-19, the organization is hoping to have more than 250 participants in presence.
On the agenda will be the General Assembly, a series of conferences headed by industry experts, a trade show with suppliers, a business area for private meetings, as well as networking activities.
On Thursday, September 2, a presentation will be held on ToBRFV. The speakers at the event are Shai Leviatov and Antonio de Sainz from Enza Zaden. They will discuss how they discovered the gene for High Resistance to ToBRFV as well as the opportunities and benefits this gene will bring to the production and commercialization of fresh tomatoes in the world. In addition, Leviatov and Sainz will comment on Mexico’s active participation in this effort and the opportunity to have genetics for the establishment of test crops and commercial crops in the near future.
