Alicante exports recovering due to improved European demand

The increase in demand in most of Europe has allowed exports to grow again in the province of Alicante. For the second consecutive month, these exceed not only the figures last year, but also those of 2019. Between the months of January and May, Alicante businessmen sold abroad worth 2,463 million euros, This represents an increase of 17.18% over the figures for the same period of 2020 -which were affected by the confinement and the stoppage of activity worldwide-, but also 5.7% more than in 2019.

Among the main markets for Alicante products stands out 67% growth in shipments to the UK, despite the entry into force of Brexit and the problems that occurred at the borders. Sales in this country total 166 million, 53 more than in 2019. There are also significant increases of 32% in Portugal (173 million), 28% in Italy (268 million), or 24.8% in France, the main destination of the province’s products, with 384 million.
