Good year for apricots

With a record 140 tons of apricots harvested in a single day (July 12th 2021), Agricola Guidi - owner of the Albisole brand - can consider 2021 the year of redemption for its apricots.

"After the planting phase and a couple of unlucky years, this is the first real campaign we are pleased with. The frost in spring damaged a small part of the early produce, but now production is in full swing and the zero residue represents an added value," reports Roberto Guidi, son of company founder Giancarlo.

Guidi specializes in red apricots, which are doing great. "The color is deep, Brix level is high and, thanks to our super-short chain, we manage to harvest the fruits when they are perfectly ripe. This is why our Rubysole line reaches a price that is 10-15% higher than that of yellow apricots."

Albisole products are available in all domestic and foreign retail chains, with the latest shipments destined to Norway. Exports to leading destinations such as Germany and northern Europe are possible thanks to the support of the Mediterranea Fruit Company.

"We are about to harvest the Rubina variety, our leading red apricot variety. We grow it on 50 hectares, so there is a lot of potential. Thanks to the late blossoming and rusticity, it was not affected by frost, so the campaign should be great. The record figure of last week was made possible thanks to the general coordination of Gianmarco Benvenuti (agricultural production manager and third generation of the Guidi family) and our employees, who have worked hard even at the height of the Covid emergency."

Albisole apricots will be available until late September thanks to staggered ripening. "The campaign is in full swing. So far, we have harvested no more than 30% of the produce."

The TV commercial broadcast in Italy during the European soccer tournament was a "good window for our company and the whole territory and feedback was impressive."
