Past and present on this special anniversary truck

The Dutch transport company, Transtolk isn't letting its 60th anniversary slip by unnoticed. They have a special, limited-edition anniversary truck on the roads. The Scania combination has a V8 engine and 770 HP. It's the most powerful truck currently available ex-factory. So, it can rightly be called a King of the Road. This vehicle features images of the trucks the company has had over the past 60 years.

History
Goof Stolk was a driver at various transportation companies. They were in the fruit and vegetable sector. After 12 years, he decided it was time to begin his own business. So, in 1961, he started 'Internationaal Transport G. Stolk' with an open-bed Mercedes 312. In 1962 the German supermarket group, Edeka, became a customer. And the Mercedes got a canopy. Goof also bought a second truck with a trailer.

The company's client base expanded even more. So much so that, in 1965, Goof was sending seven trucks to and from Saarland in Germany. In 1966, Stolk bought out another company. That significantly increased his number of licenses. At the same time, he purchased a combination truck with isothermal beds.

The company began making trips to Scandanavia in 1968. That was to ensure continuity during the quieter winter months. A new connection in the dredging sector led to Goof buying low-loaders and open trailers. That was in 1970. From then on, the company's trucks traveled to many new countries in Europe.

In 1985, Ton Stolk founded Transtolk. A year later, it merged with Internationaal Transtolk G. Stolk. That became Transtolk B.V. This company focuses on conditioned transport. It has fixed scheduled services to Paris and southern France. It also does groupage transport to and from eastern France and Germany.
