Fresón de Palos closes the campaign having marketed more than 74.4 million kilos of berries

The Freson de Palos cooperative has presented the data of the end of the 2020-2021 campaign at its annual meeting, reporting that it marketed more than 74.4 million kilos of fruit in this campaign. The strawberry is the main product marketed by the cooperative and accounts for 95.43% of its production.

"We are starting to recover pre-COVID production and sales figures, even though we are still affected by the pandemic and have been affected by other issues, such as storm Filomena which radically stopped production," stated the general director of Freson de Palos, Silvia Gomez. However, the cooperative achieved an exceptional production in the following weeks and collected more than a million kilos of fruit daily, she added. "In addition, there was a very good performance in Easter, as production increased by 30%, thanks to the excellent quality of the fruit."

Export continues to be the main sales channel for Freson de Palos, as the cooperative exports 60% of its production. In the campaign that is now closing, the strawberry from Fresón de Palos has reached 19 countries. The most outstanding markets were Germany (+ 4.5%), Italy (+ 14%), France (+ 28%), and Hungary, which has multiplied its sales by 2.5.

It's also worth noting that they had a good performance in the new markets opened in the last year in Switzerland and Lithuania. Especially in the former, where it has performed magnificently.

The cooperative produced 21.75% more blueberries than in the previous season. "The presence in supermarkets and consumption in Spain grew by an outstanding 28.5% over the previous year, which has been reflected in these good data," Silvia Gomez stated.

71.5% of the blueberries produced by Fresón de Palos are exported, reaching a score of countries. Blueberry exports to Italy increased by 41% and export to the French market increased threefold. In addition, the cooperative consolidated its blueberry exports in countries such as Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia, and reached Switzerland, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Portugal.

Raspberry production was similar to the previous season. The cooperative has reached 18 countries and it has consolidated the markets it opened a few years ago, such as Romania and Slovakia. Most importantly, it reached countries that it hadn't managed to enter with this fruit, like Croatia, Austria, and Switzerland.

Finally, the cooperative increased its blackberry production somewhat, but this fruit continues to represent slightly less than 0.1% of the fruit marketed by the Freson de Palos companies. The cooperative exported 62,000 kilos of blackberries to countries where it had no presence before, such as the Czech Republic, Croatia, and -to a greater extent- Switzerland.
