Maersk clarification about Iranian containers

Maersk would like to clarify any confusion connected to the below advisory. The below information was shared last year with all their customers, to safeguard the company's operations. Maersk's intention was to re-share the information again, to ensure compliance in their shipments.

"We are doing our utmost to keep your cargo moving without disruption or delay, but in taking accountability of our operations, we see no other option than to prolong the non-acceptance of Iranian-owned containers on our vessels.

"We regret the impact this might have on your supply chain, but we ask that you please ensure that you do not book any shipment with us where the shipper’s container is Iranian. This is to safeguard the integrity of our services and we ensure you if this matter should change, we will let you know accordingly. We are happy to work with you and manage your supply chain around this modification, so please don’t hesitate to contact your local customer service team."

"Throughout this process we aim to give as much clarity and notice as possible, but please continue to visit Maersk website for all the latest updates and again, should you have any questions, please contact your local Maersk professional."

Maersk does not accept any Iranian-owned containers on its vessels.

"Please ensure that you do not book any shipment with Maersk using a shipper’s own container where such container is Iranian. Potential fines and penalties apply to all parties, including you, who facilitate the transit of Iranian-owned containers. Iranian containers are identified by the following prefixes (but not limited to): TDIU, HDXU, IRSU, BANU and FURU.

"No laden or empty unit with these prefixes is permitted on any Maersk vessel. Maersk screens containers to ensure compliance with this requirement. Please ensure the containers you load onto our vessels do not include these prefixes. If any container with one of these prefixes is to be loaded onto a vessel operated by Maersk, please be aware that Maersk will take immediate action to offload the container.

"If we take such action, we will inform you of this. However, it will be your responsibility to take all action after the container is offloaded. Further, to the extent that you have caused a Maersk vessel to carry a container with any of the above prefixes and Maersk or any related third party suffers any damage or loss as a result thereof, it will be your responsibility to compensate such loss."
