A Queenslander who shopped at Woolworths revealed how he found the large spider - from the funnel web family - in a bag of spinach. On Facebook, he shared a photo showing the large black, brown and red spider still inside the bag, which was purchased from Woolworths in Wilsonton, Toowoomba. A Woolworths spokesperson has told 7NEWS that the supermarket is investigating the incident.
But in a surprising reaction, the shopper said he was wasn’t angry about finding a live spider - which he named Mrs Ticklefangs. 7news.com.au quoted his post as saying: “Purchased from Woolies. Who wants some protein in their pesticide-free salad?” he wrote. “I’m not mad, Woolies. Proves the veggies are managed well! Mrs Ticklefangs was relocated safely.”
However the shoppers may not have been so calm if they knew what they were potentially dealing with. While it’s unclear which type of funnel web this is, it’s known that some members of the atracidae family produce venom that is dangerous to humans.
