Monaghan Mushrooms’ vegan burger initiative reaches the production line

The first run of the new vegan burger product developed by MBio, the innovation arm of Monaghan Mushrooms, hit the production line at the company’s Knockaconny plant on Friday last.

The new product is an outworking of MBio’s declared aim of creating “powerful, natural superfood ingredients that help people live healthier lives.”

Through its Mighty Mushroom Co brand, the company is engaged in the development of a range of meat alternative mince, burger and sausage products using mushrooms produced on its farms and which are due to become available on the retail market shortly.

Monaghan Mushrooms have put an increasing emphasis in recent years on the nutritional value of their products, particularly their value in addressing vitamin D deficiency.

The Monaghan Mushrooms Group recently signed an exclusive distribution agreement with the Brenntag Food and Nutrition business unit in North America for MBio produced ingredients derived from mushrooms.

“MBio’s innovative products are a great addition to our product portfolio and allow us to provide differentiated value to our customers.” Larry Davis, President of Nutrition Americas, stated on the occasion of the deal signing.
