Eldridge Fresh Organics, located in Murray Bridge, South Australia grows fully certified organic vegetables on 350 acres.
“We grow high-quality vegetables all year round supplying wholesale and retail customers across Australia and are currently exporting to Singapore,” explains Executive Director Shane Eldridge. “We are also looking to supply more export markets with our organic produce.”
Since 1997 Eldridge Fresh Organics has grown into one of the biggest suppliers of organic, certified vegetables in the market. From a local supply to nationwide contracts and export.
“We grow a wide range of vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicums, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes and onions. The tomatoes, cucumber and capsicum are grown under protective cover. At the moment 95% of our production goes to the domestic market, but we are hoping to grow our exports.”
According to Shane one of the biggest challenges of growing organic is the weeds and pests, “We combat this by using beneficial insects, it’s also very important to have a balanced soil and work with nature, not against it.
“This season the temperatures have lower that normal which puts the crops a bit behind. We try to have a year-round production on all of our crops, only potatoes and onions have a gap of two months but we can store onions to keep the supply going longer.”
Eldridge Fresh Organics sells mainly under their own brand and are looking to build the brand by launching a website which will go live this week.
