Scholarships available for professional development programs

Center for Growing Talent has opened registration for three development opportunities this year: The Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference, the Emerging Leaders Program and the Management Fundamentals Certificate Program. For those interested in attending, scholarships are available to cover the cost of registration and most travel expenses. The Tip Murphy Scholarship is available to cover registration and airfare for a program of choice to the winner and this year is the first year for the newly established Frieda Rapoport Caplan Women’s Fresh Perspectives Scholarship, available to those looking for support in attending the Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference.

Applications for both scholarships are open now through June 30, 2021.

“We’ve just come out of a difficult year and many organizations have had to rethink or scale back on professional development spending,” said Doug Bohr, CGT executive director. “Thanks to the generous contributions from our industry, including the personal contribution from Karen Caplan and Jackie Caplan Wiggins (co-owners of Frieda’s, Inc.), Center for Growing Talent is proud to offer two scholarship programs.”

While the Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference and the Emerging Leaders Program will be held in person, the Management Fundamentals Certificate Program is an immersive online program for young professionals.

“Frieda was an early champion of the Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference, and the scholarship is a fitting way to honor her legacy,” said Megan Nash, CGT director of programs. “The Frieda’s organization has been incredibly supportive of the portfolio over the years and have sent many team members to the conference as attendees. The contribution Karen, Jackie and her family are making to extend that investment beyond their own organization to benefit others in the industry this year and in future years, is astounding.”
Awardees will be chosen based on a short personal statement and, in the case of the Tip Murphy Scholarship, a recommendation from a professional colleague, manager or mentor. Scholars will also be required to meet criteria including being approved to attend the conference of their choice. Applications are due on June 30, 2021.

The Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference will be held September 12-14, 2021 in person at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM. The Emerging Leaders Program is for high potential young professionals, and will take place December 5-9, 2021 at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. Management Fundamentals is a 40-hour certificate program in partnership with the Eller Executive Education Program at The University of Arizona. It is available to begin at any time and is built for young professionals from across the produce and floral supply chains.

Registration is open for the Women’s Fresh Perspectives ConferenceEmerging Leaders Program and Management Fundamentals for Young Professionals now.
