Maharashtra has become the country’s largest exporter of bananas between April 2020 and February 2021; exports have exceeded 134,000 tons. The country’s banana exports have crossed 191,000 tons in the same period.
In the South, Kerala has exported 18,868 tons, followed by Tamil Nadu at 6,280 tons. Uttar Pradesh has exported 20,924 tons, while West Bengal exported 3,532.77 tons.
This season, there is good demand for bananas grown in the Parbhani and Nanded districts. Jalgaon, Kolhapur and Solapur are major banana-growing regions in Maharashtra, but unfortunately 20-30% of the crop here has been damaged due to rains. Indian bananas are in great demand in Iran, Iraq, Muscat and Bahrain and also Europe, to some extent.
