Fruit Growers Tasmania celebrate 30th Annual Conference

Next week marks a milestone for Fruit Growers Tasmania when they will host the 30th annual conference for the fruit growing industry in Tasmania. The landmark event will be held from 14 – 16 June at the Tailrace Centre in Launceston.

“This is the major event in the fruit growers’ calendar in Tasmania”, said Fruit Growers Tasmania CEO Peter Cornish. “We’re really looking forward to bringing fruit producers and industry professionals together once more to learn from each other and most importantly to celebrate all the hard work done by our growers.”

Fruit Growers Tasmania’s annual conference helps growers to stay on top of the latest research findings, production techniques, emerging technologies and challenges relating to fruit production in Tasmania, and offers an excellent opportunity for networking.

Mr Cornish added, “After last year’s event had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this year we will feature a stellar line-up of speakers focusing on the things that matter most to growers, and I for one can’t wait!

“Presenting at the conference will be Australia’s most highly regarded tree fruit agronomist Marcel Veens, one of New Zealand’s most experienced fresh produce branding experts Louise Beard, Steve Burdette who is the leading national authority on Pacific labour options, as well as Tasmania’s own Prof. Dugald Close.”

In addition, presenters will cover all aspects of production, from labour to disease management, production systems, research, trade, and even the emerging issue of plastics.

In addition to the presenters, almost 30 local and national trade exhibitors and sponsors have signed up to provide valuable insights and information about their products and services to growers in Tasmania.

“There truly will be something for everyone, growers and industry members, big and small,” said Mr Cornish.

Tasmania’s prestigious annual fruit industry awards dinner also forms part of the conference proceedings. This event recognises the achievements of industry members and inducts new members into the industry Roll of Honour. This year the awards dinner will be held at Josef Chromy Wines on Wednesday 16 June with the Hon. Guy Barnett MP, Minister for Primary Industries, delivering the keynote
address.
