New innovation in the plastic covering system

“Safe-D Vento 2 has ten times more ventilation than our previous product”

Innovation in plastic covering has come a long way, with covers protecting from weather and UV light as well as impacting the growth acceleration and brix levels of a product. One Greek company has released a new plastic cover that sets itself apart by having an improved ventilation system, allowing hot and humid air to escape more easily.

Dimitris Daios, R&D and Business Development director for Daios Plastics from Greece, states the company has been innovating in the world of plastics for over 45 years: “As Daios Plastics, we have produced agricultural films since 1975. Our products have positively affected the growth of plants ever since. What’s made us successful is our willingness to change our products based on the feedback of our clients. We have over 52 patents, enhancing the cultivation of soft fruit and cherries mostly. Our films protect the produce from rain, hail, sunburns and UV/IR light. 85% of our products are exported to both European markets as well as Chile and Peru, for example. This year, we’ve released several new products, among which Safe-D Vento 2 is improving the ventilation greatly.”

The new cover for fruit orchards has taken ventilation to the next level, Daios explains. “This new product, the Safe-D Vento 2, protects both soft fruit including grapes, cherries, gold and red kiwi, blueberries and raspberries. We’ve designed different films for earlier or later harvests, which will have different UV systems. This affects growth acceleration as well as brix levels of the product. The new ventilation system, Safe-D Vento 2, has 10 times more ventilation than our previous product. We do this by having just the right number and size of openings to allow hot and humid air to escape.”

Despite having created multiple new products in terms of plastic covers, Daios says the company does not let up from investing in new designs: “As a company, Daios Plastics still invests heavily into the Research & Development department. Our products, are meant to provide benefit over multiple seasons. Depending on the product, it could last 32, 42 or even 48 months. In many cases our buyers hire a specialized company to help set up the structures and place Safe-D on them. Our motto is relentless innovation and simple, smart, easy to adapt solutions!” he concludes.
