70% drop in Venezuela's banana production

In an interview with Unión Radio, the director of Citizenship in Action, Edison Arciniega, stated that Venezuela's agricultural activity had declined because of the encroachment in the lands south of Lake Maracaibo and the Andean foothills.

Rural areas have been left desolate because of the mafias stealing land and the lack of quality public services (electricity, internet, transportation, water, etc.). "Farmers are an endangered species," Arciniega stated.

He also said that Colombia's national strike may have an impact on western Venezuela, as far as food marketing is concerned.
