Arno van den Oord, Champoord:

"Demand for mushrooms picks up after difficult period"

The sales of mushrooms are going well according to Arno van den Oord of mushroom and bean sprout wholesaler Champoord from Ammerzoden. "There have been ups and downs, but hopefully we've put the downs behind us now. Demand has picked up, but not yet to the level it should be at."

At the moment, prices of the white mushrooms are around 1.60-1.70 Euro. "We traditionally do quite a bit of trading to the hotel and catering industry. That was pretty much at a standstill last year, but fortunately those sales are gradually picking up again," says the mushroom trader.

"The availability of both white and speciality mushrooms is sufficient. The export is quite broad. In the beginning of the year in particular, trade with the United Kingdom was restricted by the Brexit, but now demand is steadily increasing. We are therefore positive about the time ahead."
