Post harvest solution to extend pineapple shelf life

Ever since China banned imports of Taiwanese pineapples last March, exporters in Taiwan had shifted their sales of pineapples to other overseas markets such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia. In the past, it only took 3-4 days to ship pineapples from Taiwan to mainland China, but now it takes more than 7 days of shipping time to those countries. How to control the maturity and prevent mold infection during storage and transportation has been a tough task for the pineapple exporters.

AnsiP-S and Natacoat, two products of LytoFresh Technology developed by Lytone Enterprise, Inc., have been applied by many exporters to tackle the post-harvest quality issue. By using AnsiP-S in the packaging process, pineapple’s ripening mechanism and color change can be delayed for more than 10 days after harvest and to be destined for Japan. On the issue of fungal infection, by applying Natacoat on the cut wound of pineapples, the impact of fungal growth inhibition is more enduring than chlorine or alcohol, which only lasts no more than 10 days. In other words, AnsiP-S plus Natacoat enables the fruit to be in compliance with the high quality standards required by Japanese importers.

Both AnsiP-S and Natacoat are user-friendly, operators need not change their current post-harvest and packaging process. Furthermore, both products do not leave chemical residues in pineapples.

"It’s our pleasure being able to assist pineapple exporters in preserving fruit quality and reducing loss during transportation, creating profits and solving the problem that was originally a headache for the industry. We have learned it again that a crisis can be an opportunity, depending on how you prepare yourself for that, and also what resources you have on hand. This is exactly the very purpose why we developed LytoFresh technology," Dr. William T.H. Chang, the founder and CEO of Lytone Enterprise, Inc., comments.
