Bumper harvest in China boosts lychee exports

As a well-known fruit from Southern China, the lychee has become popular in overseas markets. This year is an on-year, and the harvest is ahead of schedule. The first volumes exported from the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Customs despatched one week earlier than last year. In the period between April 29 and May 17, this area has exported 350.07 tons with a value of 1.514 million US dollars, showing an increase of 91.4% and 125.7% respectively year-on-year. Lychee is also an important fruit exported from Guangdong to Hong Kong. This year, the supply of low-priced and high-quality lychees in the Hong Kong market can be ensured.

On May 17, 4 shipments of fresh Feizixiao lychees with a total volume of 1.9 tons and a value of USD 16,100 were successfully exported by air to Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, marking the start of Guangzhou’s peak export season. "We have received orders from all over the world. 8 shipments were exported on May 17th and 18th, and this year's exports are expected to hit new highs.” Liu, Manager of Conghua Hualong Fruit and Vegetable Freshkeeping Co., Ltd. introduced.

On May 17, in the processing plant of Foshan Zhongli Trading Co., Ltd., the customs officers of the Gaoming Office of Foshan Customs under Guangzhou Customs inspected and released 10.8 tons of fresh lychees valued at 34,500 US dollars bound for Thailand by sea. “The quality of lychees deteriorates very fast, and the international market has higher requirements for freshness, so the efficiency of customs clearance for exports is particularly important,” Kuang Weiguang, Manager of Foshan Zhongli Trading Co., Ltd said.

2021 is the first year for Guangdong Province to implement the "Three-year Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of the Lychee Industry in Guangdong (2021-2023)". To support the development of overseas lychee markets, Guangzhou Customs took the initiative to communicate with enterprises to understand their export needs, research importing countries or the regional trade risks in advance, and provide precise consulting services for companies to effectively avoid risks.
