The Italian company ISI Sementi is a leader in the midi plum segment, and it is not by chance that one of the most successful and popular slogans is 'Where there's plum tomatoes, there's ISI'.
The most successful variety is Proxy F1, a rustic, versatile and reliable crop, which over the years has become renowned in Sicily, and is now considered a reference point for the production of Midi Plum.
Over the years, Sicilian producers have refined cultivation techniques, deepening their know-how on the agronomic characteristics of the variety, so to guarantee a product available almost all year round. This results in a remarkable advantage both for the distribution network and for the consumer, as Proxy is also a guarantee of quality of the fruits, not only for their aspect, but also for their consistency, taste and organoleptic qualities.
The majority of operators in the sector recognize a Proxy cluster by the fleshy, freshness of the rachis and sepals and the intense red fruit.
It is a perfect combination of beauty and taste, which catches the attention of consumers and satisfies their palates. The Gocce di Sapore brand, which many producers apply to the product, makes it easier to recognize and purchase.
ISI Sementi's efforts for the promotion of this exclusive product segment, however, are not limited to Proxy. The spring campaign is now in full swing, involving the production areas of northern and central-southern Italy, where another variety of ISI Sementi is drawing the attention of the sector operators, Dominus F1 (ISI 82491).
Dominus is the first fresh market tomato variety commercialized in Italy resistant to TSWV 0-1, thus guaranteeing resistance to the modified TSWV breed (breed 1).
Dominus is not only resistant to TSWV, but it is also a healthy and productive plant, with short and regular internodes, which can also grow at high temperatures and withstands the sudden changes in temperature that sometimes occur in the period from early spring to late summer.
The fruit has an intense red color, excellent shelf life, great taste and great versatility.
ISI Sementi has always paid primary attention to genetic resistance and productive stability. Its research is highly advanced in providing valid and reliable solutions, as evidenced by the variety Dominus.
Today, one of the main lines of work of ISI Sementi's research concerns the creation of varieties with high resistance (HR) to ToBRFV, whose source of genetic resistance has already been identified, and the implementation of resistant materials with the aim of obtaining varieties with high resistance to the virus, without compromising on the agronomic efficiency and great flavor, which have always distinguished ISI Sementi's Midi Plum varieties.
