Mirontell fine & fresh launches industrial fruit and gastro2go:

"With this new range, we want to reflect the new needs of the market"

mirontell fein & frisch AG has officially launched its new catering and industrial concept, in the form of a new online presence. "With our new concepts, we want to reflect the changing needs of the market, and provide an even larger customer base with high-quality sliced fruit," Rick Marwitz explains.

The two new branches of mirontell - industry fruits and gastro2go - are a perfect fit for the increased demand from different sectors of the food industry and fit into the expansion strategy that the company had already embarked on last year.

industry fruits
Wholesalers, mirontell's previous main target group, have suffered greatly from the pandemic: "The demand for sliced fruit has not simply disappeared, however, but has shifted in the industry. People can no longer go on vacation and enjoy a hotel breakfast with fruit salad at the buffet, for example - instead, they go to the bakery more often at home for a little corona-friendly luxury. Accordingly, the demand for classic products for bakery use, i.e. sliced strawberries or apples, has increased."

Marwitz has also seen increased demand for cut fruit of all kinds from customers in ice cream parlors and from canners. "We have expanded our range for the industrial side accordingly."

One trend with steady growth in recent years has been cooking boxes. Manufacturers of such programs rely on portioned fruit for many dishes. Marwitz gives an example: "When talking about a curry for two people, it's hard to send a whole pineapple in a cooking box. Our industry fruits division offers convenience for suppliers and consumers alike. Exact quantities are a long-standing trend, especially in view of ever smaller households, and one that will continue to develop in the future."

gastro2go
Over the past 12 months, there has been a forced rethinking of the foodservice industry. "As restaurants are only open to visitors to a limited extent, delivery and pick-up services have become essential. That creates the need for a different type of product and packaging. Portion and cut size for dessert or in menu offerings is one of the factors here that we are looking at in more detail."

The demand for "to go" has not only increased in the restaurant industry, however. "For hygiene reasons, large-scale suppliers such as clinics are also increasingly offering their fruit in portions. In addition, there are many elderly people who want to protect themselves from the virus and therefore rely on programs such as Meals on Wheels. People are simply ordering more and having it delivered to their homes. We help our customers do that with portion sizes that fit and convenient packaging for their services."

A passion for fruit salad
Despite all the innovations, the basic idea of fruit salad is still important to the mirontell team: "Our goal is to bring freshly cut fruit 'to the man', whether for juice, snacks or sweet meals. To achieve this, we have now adapted our range and services even better to our growing customer base and consumers."
